Imagine building a high-tech 140,000 SF freezer facility in Raynham, Massachusetts…in January. And imagine that the recorded temperatures during the construction period were 10 to 30 degrees lower than the average 30-year historical temperatures. This was the challenge of the Preferred Freezer Services Raynham project.
In addition to horrendous conditions, the development schedule was
heavily compressed, due to business requirements, to just five months.
Because the frost was four feet deep, ground heaters were used to remove frost
as well as circulated warm air, in order to bring in fill to level off the
property. Concrete was kept warm through January and February and eventually
cast in tilt up walls. A super flat freezer slab was installed shortly thereafter
as well as refrigeration equipment to meet the completion date of the project
in May.
Without the confidence of the client in Campanelli’s reputation
and in-house resources to meet such rigorous conditions and deadlines,
the project would not be complete today. Neither would the repeat business
soon to follow, Campanelli was proud to work with Preferred Freezer on
a second building in Sharon, MA as well as a third building to be started
soon in New Jersey.
